You Did It!

Some preachers live for Sunday. That could be a great thing or a not-so-great thing. If we live for Sunday because we love the spotlight, the rush of being on stage, people paying attention to us, or love to perform, living for Sunday is a bad thing. No one can judge us to determine if that is in our hearts. Of course, we know, and God knows, and in time, others will figure it out. A heart longing for admiration, appreciation, and applause can destroy a church and greatly distract from the message.

Some preachers live for Sunday because they strongly desire to help people, minister to people, proclaim the unsearchable riches of Jesus with people and share the life-changing, life-giving Good News with others. If this is in our hearts, God can use us to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Then, there are some preachers who, at times, endure Sundays. Maybe it’s because of a tough week at home, maybe you or someone in your family has been ill, maybe you had a “challenging” elders meeting this week, maybe someone in your church family treated you wrong, or maybe you are questioning your own effectiveness.

The fact is, not every Sunday is easy. Some are much more difficult than others. In an attempt to be fully transparent, I’ll confess there have been Sundays that it took every ounce of my being to make it through.

But praise God, He helps us. The prayers of His people who understand help us, and the will to do what we believe He wants us to do helps us.

Maybe there will be more difficult Sundays, maybe next week will be easier, but for now, Congratulations, with God’s help, you did it.
