The Battle For Our Minds

As we seek to serve in ministry, we must be mindful of the enemy and his desire for our minds. He uses many strategies to discourage and distract us.

The enemy fills our minds with prideful thoughts, tempting us to seek attention for our works. He uses pride to cause us to do and say things we shouldn’t to elevate ourselves. This pride destroys the humility Jesus calls us to.

The enemy creates doubt in us. Doubt causes thoughts like “I can’t handle this” or “maybe ministry isn’t for us anymore.” He uses doubt to discourage us.

The enemy draws our attention to our weaknesses. He wants us to sit in our weakness rather than growing and striving to be more and do more. He whispers, “You don’t have what it takes to be a minister’s wife.”

The battle for our minds is real. When we feel the enemy creeping in, we have to acknowledge it for what it is and not let him control our thoughts. We must fill our minds with God’s Word and spend time in prayer. We must remember that “Satan wants to define us by our scars, but Jesus wants to define us by His” (L. Giglio). Isn’t this a beautiful, reassuring truth?!

Satan tempts us with pride, but God calls us to exemplify our humble Savior. Satan whispers doubt, but God gave us a book of truth to remind us of His salvation and faithfulness. Satan tells us we are weak, but God promises to strengthen us because we are His masterpieces created for good works.

So when you feel the enemy creeping in, turn to God. Remember God loves you. Remember that you are blessed to serve His Church in a unique role, so don’t lose heart. Stay faithful in prayer and humble in service, and remember “…the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one” (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

In Him,
